Hello there! Welcome to Articulation Therapy at Red Deer Speech Therapy. When sounds don’t come out quite right, it can make words difficult to understand. This can be frustrating for both the speaker and the listener. But don’t worry, that’s where we step in.
Articulation refers to the physical movements of the tongue, lips, teeth, and palate to produce speech sounds. An articulation delay is when a child isn’t making these sounds correctly according to their age. It could be substituting one sound for another (“wabbit” for “rabbit”), omitting a sound (“ca” for “cat”), or distorting a sound (making “s” sound slushy).
Our dedicated team of speech-language pathologists are experienced in working with children with articulation delays. We use a variety of techniques to help children make sounds more accurately, ultimately improving their speech clarity.
Our approach to therapy is playful and engaging, packed with fun activities that keep kids motivated. We believe in learning through play, because that’s when children are most open to learning. We work on practicing sounds through games, stories, and drills, gradually moving from individual sounds to words, sentences, and then conversation.
But it’s not just about the sounds. We also focus on building the child’s confidence in their speech. After all, feeling confident in speaking is as important as the speech itself. We celebrate every sound mastered and every word pronounced more clearly, because every step forward is a victory.
And guess what? Parents and caregivers are an essential part of this journey! We provide tips and strategies for you to support your child’s speech practice at home. This continuous practice can significantly boost your child’s progress.
At Red Deer Speech Therapy, our Articulation Therapy program is all about helping children express themselves more clearly and confidently. Because we believe everyone deserves to be heard just as they intend.
