Hello, and welcome to our corner of the internet dedicated to Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) at Red Deer Speech Therapy. We understand that it can feel overwhelming when your little one struggles to express themselves. But don’t worry, you’re not alone. We’re here to help guide and support you through this journey.
Childhood Apraxia of Speech is a motor speech disorder. Children with CAS know what they want to say, but their brains have a tough time coordinating the muscle movements necessary to say those words. It can make their speech sound choppy, or even make them hard to understand. But the good news is that with the right support, kids with CAS can make significant improvements.
Our dedicated speech-language pathologists have extensive experience in working with children with CAS. We provide one-on-one therapy, using playful, engaging activities to keep the kiddos motivated. After all, we believe that therapy should be fun!
Our approach involves techniques designed to improve the coordination of the muscles used in speech. We work on helping kids pronounce sounds and words more clearly, using repeated practice of speech exercises. These could be anything from simple sounds to more complex words and sentences. We progress at the child’s pace, always making sure they feel comfortable and encouraged.
One of the things we cherish about working with kids with CAS is celebrating their victories, big and small. Every new sound, every word spoken more clearly, is a cause for celebration! It’s these milestones that make the journey rewarding.
But therapy doesn’t end when the session does. We also involve parents and caregivers in the therapy process, providing them with tools and strategies to support their child’s speech development at home. This consistent practice can be a game-changer for kids with CAS.
Our CAS therapy program at Red Deer Speech Therapy aims to give children the skills and confidence they need to express themselves more effectively. Because we believe every child deserves to be heard and understood.
We know this journey can be challenging, but with our team by your side, you won’t have to face it alone. If you’re ready to start your child’s speech therapy journey or have questions about CAS, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here for you, and we’re excited to be a part of your child’s communication journey.
